Books to Bring Laughter

Updated: May 7, 2020

Are you looking for something funny to read to lighten your mood?

I'm sure you have heard the phrase, laughter is the best medicine. According to a Psychology Today article "Laughter: The Best Medicine" from Apr. 5, 2005, by Hara Estroff Marano:

Laughter, it's said, is the best medicine. And there's lots of evidence that laughter does lots of good things for us. It reduces pain and allows us to tolerate discomfort.... Laughter establishes -- or restores -- a positive emotional climate.... Michael Miller, M.D., of the University of Maryland adds, laughter offsets the impact of mental stress....

And from one of my favorite authors, Madeleine L’Engle, A Ring of Endless Light:

A good laugh heals a lot of hurts.

We could all use a good laugh right now during this difficult time of isolation or too much alone time with our families. With this in mind I collected 12 titles available from the Library Digital Catalog. There is a little something here for everyone, from Humorous Mysteries to Romantic Comedy, Young Adult Comedy, Limericks & Puns.

Disclaimer: I have not read all of these, but I sure want to after getting hooked on their descriptions. Enjoy!
